Polyclonal antibody services are suitable when a broader epitope response is useful for research assays. Peptide antigens are commonly conjugated to KLH before immunization.
Antiserum can be affinity-purified against the immunizing peptide when requested. That step reduces carrier-reactive antibodies and is often worth specifying for blot work.
A polyclonal lot is finite. If you later need a renewable reagent, plan a monoclonal follow-up rather than assuming a second bleed will match the first.
Host choice, bleed schedule and whether a pre-immune sample is retained are part of the written scope. We do not invent a single “standard titer” that applies to every peptide.
For peptide programs, the screening peptide should be the free peptide or a second carrier, not only the KLH conjugate used for immunization. That distinction belongs on the antibody production page and in the quote.
When polyclonal is enough
Use a polyclonal reagent when you need a first research antibody quickly, when the epitope may be conformationally mixed, or when the experiment is a one-time blot or ELISA development. Do not use it when you already know you will need the same clone for years.
Affinity purification
Antigen-affinity purification is requested when carrier-reactive antibodies would confuse the assay. It consumes peptide and should be planned at synthesis so that enough antigen remains for the column.
